This past week I’ve been in book paradise. I’ve sifted through book suggestions from friends, read up booklists and blurbs and gone through Goodreads reviews to make up my TBR. I’ve stumbled across phenomenal reads – funny, suspenseful, thought-provoking, mushy – all kinds. I have been constantly amazed at the realms that the human minds can delve into, the worlds it can create, the stories it can spin.
Anyway, after much thought I have arrived at my TBR list based on last week’s Wishlist.
Here it is.
Those are the books I aspire to read through the year. What do you think of the list?
For some genres I have more than one because I just couldn’t make up my mind. Some are by familiar authors so I have a fair idea what to expect and some will be a complete surprise.
I have favourites, of course. The Zookeeper’s Wife, The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake as also The Hundred Foot Journey, The Red Notebook, The Siege at the Taj Hotel – can’t wait to get to those. Some are intriguing like The Egyptian since I’ve hardly read anything about life during the times of the Pharaohs other than what I picked up in history class.
I know I’ve left out some good books but then the TBR list is not binding and I will add and subtract, along the way. I’ve missed out some genres too like Life in Space and Aliens as well as Spirituality as Sulekha pointed out. They’ll just have to wait.
A big thank you to Shantala, Lata , Vinay, Vinitha, Tarang and Mithila for helping out with their suggestions. I shall always be grateful for the presence of friends and readers like you through my reading journey.
Even as I finalised the list I am done with my first book of the year – The Girl With Seven Names. Review coming up soon.

The Red Notebook is an uplifting read, all Antoine Laurain’s novella seem to be actually. I read Tahmima Anam’s trilogy in 2016, have you read A Golden Age and The Good Muslim, the two books before The Bones of Grace? It can be read separately and might be even better to do so, such great storytelling, the first book is quite a pageturner. Enjoy your reading!

Yes I’ve read the first two by Tahmima Anam which is why I included the third. Looking forward to it. The Red Notebook also sounds very interesting.

That’s an interesting mix of books. I mostly read fantasy and sci-fi so haven’t read most of these books. Handmaid’s tale was my 2016 read and I was not that much impressed with it. The writing did not appeal to me. Hope you have a fun reading year!

I’m going mostly by online reviews and friends’ recommendations. If a book doesn’t work for me I’m ready to let it be.

This is wow! Sadly, I had always restricted myself to certain genres like Romance. 😦 but, recently, I have grown as a reader, and experimented with different genres. And, it worked really well.
The Nightingale is in my reading list. For translation (and psychological thriller – my current fav genre), it’s The Devotion of Suspect X. I am yet to finish Lanka’s Princess (loved the prologue and the way the author has portrayed Krishna is so beautiful!! Tell me how you felt when you read this book). I have seen The Hundred Foot Journey – the movie. Such a beautiful movie! Didn’t know about the book. Will check.

The Hundred Foot Journey … is it the one on which they made that movie with Om Puri? I love that movie.

Your TBR list has inspired me to take up books of different genres for reading. i have compiled a small list of books to be read of my own on goodreads, though it is not extensive as yours. A small leap for me from unorganized to slightly organised.

Thanks Anamika. I started out rather late. I normally pick up any book that sounds interesting, which is also fine of course but this I thought was a good way to make sure I include a variety in my reading. Following you on Goodreads.

Wow! Simply superb this is. I liked the way you have planned for the various prompts! I’ll pick up some books from your list, especially Lanka’s Princess, We need to talk about Kevin, Bossypants, Rekha’s biography, books by Maya Angelou, Maragaret Atwood, And love the use of BAR WoWe prompts in this post. Very creative!
