Hola folks. It’s #BookBytes day and I have just the perfect quote for today. It’s from another childhood favourite, (one from the twins’ books again!). Unlike last time’s quote from The Little Prince. there’s absolutely nothing allegorical or deep in this one. It’s simple and sweet, quite like the protagonist of the book from which it is taken. She’s 11 years old and she’s the simplest, sweetest of them all – She’s Anne Shirley from Anne of the Green Gables.
She reminded me so much of my own young tween – naturally cheerful, dramatic and fanciful enough to try your patience sometimes, yet so very endearing. I’ll stop now and just get to the quote:
“What a splendid day!” said Anne, drawing a long breath. “Isn’t it good just to be alive on a day like this? I pity the people who aren’t born yet for missing it. They may have good days, of course, but they can never have this one.”

Of course Anne was probably talking about the red-orange Autumn which we, sadly enough, don’t get to see here. However, October does have lovely memories for me. It’s the time in North India when winter starts to make its appearance. There’s that little nip in the air which makes you reach out to switch off the fan and you begin to think of airing your woollens. It’s ‘Not too hot, Not too cold, Just right’ as Goldilocks would put it. Yup, October is really quite perfect.

Ann Shirley is my most favourite character out of all the female heroines in the Literary world, most endearing. I absolutely loved (and still love) whatever she had to say at the age of 12. When I read the book a couple of years back, I felt like breathing her words in to let them mix inside of me. And of course, my favourite month is October. Why? I am not sure but it is. While Aug and Sep sap me of hope, October brings all things and thoughts hopeful.
And the change of season is certainly adding colours, red and yellow, to my surroundings. Red makes it a pretty sight for me which on another account reminds me of our team’s name from yesteryear’s Bar-A-Thon. Crimson rush, was it?
With the onset of hopeful October, I can see myself joining you with my BookBytes post on 15th Oct and next time my heroine’s name will be Anna, another 12 years old.

Oh I remember Crimson Rush. When all of admins were picking a colour I just knew I wanted Crimson – it’s such a happy vibrant colour, isn’t it? That Barathon was my favourite one. I love Anne Shirley too. She’s such a typical 12-year-old and yet so much her own person – a kindred spirit. That’s what makes her special.

I don’t know what’s my favourite time of the year. Every month is like any other month {just winters tend to irritate me after a point of time}. Every day is like any other day. I am a terribly boring person.

Ha ha no Tarang, you’re not. I think every time of the year has a different vibe. October is special because it brings with it the festival season, plus it’s the last quarter so the year-end excitement starts to build up, no? Now with the children, it also means end of exams – if that doesn’t make it special, nothing can :-).

Weather wise, the current season (fall in US) is my favorite time of the year. The weather is cool but not chilly, which after the summer heat is such a relief!
And technically, we have the same kind of weather in Spring, but I love Fall because I love the time of the year that follows. So it is as much related to anticipation as it is to the temperatures. 🙂
In India though, I used to love December. It used to be really cool (by Mumbai standards) and also my birthday month! 🙂

I read this book some 2-3 years ago. I LOVED Anne and her imagination, her style of speaking and her non-stop chatter, her attitude towards life… Read this book with a smile plastered on my face. It’s so fun, hilarious and so heart-warming.
Winters are my favorite… not the harsh cold months but this late Oct-Nov type of wintry days!

I havent read this book but loved the quotes. The reds and rusts of autumn are visible in small bursts here in the North though they run a riot in Kashmir where the Chinar/maple beguiles everyone with its colours.
I have forgotten the name of this US city where the trees go from orange to yellow and its just stunning. I have seen so many pics of this region but right now cant remember the name at all. I too love this time of the year with its second spring of sorts. Its just the perfect way to welcome winters and yes the winter chill is slightly in the air since a few weeks.
Been thinking of sunning the woolies but the sun has been playing truant and yesterday we had a crazy downpour out of the blue 🙂

If there’s one thing on my bucket list it’s to visit the US in autumn. I absolute love the pictures that friends and family share during these months. It’s surreal – the reds and oranges are stunning. You’re lucky to have at least experienced Kashmir.

I love October as much as I love March. The best of both worlds- autumn and spring; and we get to experience them to the hilt here in the North.
I love the intoxicatingly fragrant, crisp air of October. The gentle nip, the wispy clouds, the magical skies, the lush landscape. It’s all so wondrous.

Thank you Natasha. Hope you had a wonderful Durga Puja. You’re right October and March are both great months but to my mind March is marred with exams! It’s weird how after decades of taking them, that vague feeling of dread lingers – I associate exams with the exit of winter.

Yeah that feeling of dread- March and exams. I still remember the cuckoo calls would herald exam days. I equated those calls to doom. 😅

It is true, coming from a 12 year old feels more powerful to me. After a time(the adult time) we start to see these quotes as beautiful as they were when we first read them right? I am yet to read this book, but I get the feeling that even as I read this at different ages, I’d still cherish these lines, like a reminder to me at that moment. Apart from the birthday month(June), which was the beginning of the school year and all that back then, I love summers. Hot is what I’ve liked so I could roam around. And undoubtedly October to December is calming me nowadays because I’d love to watch the sky and the orange hues in the evenings doing nothing else.

When we read these books as kids we don’t notice much of the beauty in them – just like innocent people don’t notice innocence. It’s when you’re older and have developed perspective that it becomes much more fun to get back to these reads.

Oooh I love both these quotes! Good choices ❤ Fall is my favorite time of year! Tho its snowing here today so it doesn't feel like fall haha. We normally get really pretty changing leaves but they haven't changed yet

Snowing already? I thought it was after leaves change colour and drop off that it starts snowing. That said, winter months have their won kind of beauty.
